Migration - 457 Visa Salary Changes - Effective 1 August 2008


The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has announced an increase in the minimum salary levels for subclass 457 visa holders, to come into effect from 1 August 2008. The annual base salary has increased from $41,850.00 per annum to $43,440.00 per annum and for information and communications technology professionals the annual base salary has increased from $57,300.00 to$59,480.00.

Concessions for occupations in regional areas are still available however, the minimum base salary for those applicants has also increased from $37,665.00 per annum to $39,100.00 per annum and from $51,570.00 per annum to $53,530.00 per annum for information and  communications technology professionals.

Employees who are subject to an award must be paid the minimum base salary or the award, which ever is higher.

In previous years DIAC has increased the minimum base salary however the August increase will have a further effect in that it will apply both to new applicants as well as those already in the work force holding subclass 457 visas.
