Checking Visa Status

The fastest way to check the validity of a visa is through the new online system provided by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).  Australian visa labels are being phased out and the new online system is the best method of checking the validity of a visa.

Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) is an internet service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The system allows visa holders to log on and view their visa details online.  The system is also recommended for employers.  Employers can access VEVO and check that prospective employees have the right to work in Australia.

It is essential that all employers obtain assurance that each overseas worker has a valid visa.  Businesses employing illegal workers risk hefty penalties including fines.
