Order of Australia Medal Recipient

Macrossans Lawyers congratulates long term supporter of the firm, Mr George Curphy, on presentation of an Order of Australia Medal.  In his role as chairperson of the Sylvia and Charles Viertel Charitable Foundation Mr Curphy oversees administration of the $60million bequest left by the estate in 1992.  The Foundation's beneficiaries include the Salvation Army Youth Program, the Prevent Blindness Foundation and the Queensland Cancer Fund. In addition the Foundation awards senior medical research fellowships, capital equipment grants and assists in the education and medical fields in many other areas. The Foundation is one of Australia's largest private foundations. Macrossans Lawyers assisted Mr Curphy on a pro bono basis.

Mr Curphy has chaired the Foundation since 2002. Mr Curphy is a former primary and secondary school teacher and lecturer in Physics and Mathematics with the now Queensland University of Technology. As well as devoting 56 years to the teaching profession, Mr Curphy was a director of Hancock & Gore Limited now HGL Limited.
